The Texas Chiefs Model Airplane Club The Texas Chiefs Model Airplane Club was established in 1954 as a control line club, but later included free flight models and today is primarily a radio control club. However, any modeler is welcome within the club. The Texas Chiefs are a Charter Club within the Academy of Model Aeronautics and have been awarded Gold Club status for 15 years now. The Academy of Model aeronautics, a part of Federation Aeronautique Internationale, is the national rule making group for the USA. AMA is also in charge of selecting teams to participate in World Championships. Model making has been around since before actual man-carrying flights. Materials used have progressed from bamboo and softwoods, to balsa, to the use of foams, plastics, carbons, and fiberglass. Model engines have gone from home built, using points, coils and condensors, thru "glow" engines and diesels, to the latest turbine motors. Models using radio control can not only duplicate any full size aircraft but can do stunts that exceed the "real thing." The Texas Chiefs have an excellent field 3 miles East of Haskell with a paved runway, grass areas, RV hookups for contests, and a covered impound area. We participate in the Highway Litter Pickup Project, and other civic activities as they come up. We sponsor an Open House Fly In and a Sailplane Contest each year. We can help you build a model and fly it. Further information is available by calling 817-864-3086 or writing to The Texas Chiefs Model Airplane Club, P. O. Box 188, Haskell, Tx. 79521
